DETAIL VIEWS:

Twin sisters Cara and Mia Wang collaborated to create this piece of furniture, in memory of their childhood and the places that live deeply in memories as they undergo tremendous changes in life. The painting on the tabletop depicts the views of Fang Cao Street in a whimsical style. With indigo infused gouache, Cara painted the historical street, the old buildings, the tropical trees with fruits, birds and clouds in the sky and the twin sisters flying by in a little airplane. The table is constructed with maple wood dyed in indigo. Fang Cao Street, a historical alley in the city of Guangzhou, is where the sisters went to their elementary school. As toddlers, the twins dreamed about escaping the school, flying on an airplane over the school’s wall, the stores, people’s homes and eventually the whole city of Guangzhou. To them, Indigo is a vessel of storytelling, allowing the past memory seeping through the grains of wood.
